The Asbury Hotel opened in May 2016 on Fifth Avenue in Asbury Park. It is a very hip 110-room contemporary hotel renovated from an old dilapidated Salvation Army building. A reported $50 million was spent building out the structure. It is the first new hotel in Asbury Park in many, many decades.
There is a 4,400 square foot awesome rooftop lounge with terrific views of the city.
Like this view from Sunday evening June 25 2017 of Asbury Park’s famed Convention Hall at sundown.
There are open-air movies in The Baronet Theater on the roof and a comfortable lounge downstairs. There is also a very cool photo gallery on the ground floor facing the boardwalk called ‘Transparent.’
The gallery ‘Transparent’ features the extraordinary rock and roll photography of Danny Clinch, best known as one of the great photographers of musicians of the rock era. Clinch, who began his career interning for the legendary Annie Leibovitz, has created iconic images of many of the music greats from Bruce Springsteen (of course), Tupac Shakur, Johnny Cash, the Foo Fighters and many others. His photos have graced album covers and magazine covers such as Rolling Stone. A few years ago Clinch was profiled on the CBS network program ‘60 Minutes.’ The gallery is run by Tina Kerekes, a dealer in the 2oth Century Modern furniture, lighting and décor. The gallery not only features some great photography by Danny Clinch, but a number of interesting furniture pieces from Tina as well.
There’s so much cool stuff in Asbury Park lately and its seems like new stuff is opening monthly. There are terrific murals throughout the town as well. Here’s one of my favorites…
